2009

2008 was fucking great from all points of view. Some new things happened. But I bet 2009 will be better, a bit tougher but it will be ok at the end of the day. Happy New Year and welcome to wherever you are!

Want to make some money online?

The best way to earn some cash from the front of your monitor is Amazon Mechanical Turk. Try it! Some of the guys pay miserably, but there are some nice tasks to do also, for the right money. Don’t expect to win hundreds of dollars from the first week. You need patience. Together with my girlfriend I made 40 dollars. The bad part is that if you don’t reside in the US you can’t have the money. What’s to do then? Well, you can buy from Amazon. We already bought for like 35 dollars and we were really satisfied!

iPhone’s eBook Reader

An iPhone does one hell of a lot more than a Kindle, that’s for sure.

The iPhone’s screen might be smaller, at only 3.5-inches, while Kindle has an eInk screen that is 600 by 800 pixels (six inches diagonally)with a resolution at 167 ppi, 4-level gray scale. But while the iPhone’s touchscreen is smaller and has slightly less resolution, it’s capable of displaying colour.

The big advantage for Kindle is the matte cool screen, this making it really easy to read. Despite that, the iPhone’s popularity is growing in the book-reader field. Newly released and best-selling eBooks as applications for the iPhone and iPod touch will be released shortly.

Big names in publishing represent a big step forward for Apple, meaning it’s becoming an eBook vendor.

Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight, Philip Pullman’s The Golden Compass and titles by Christopher Paolini, Brad Meltzer and Scott Westerfeld are already available, being the first official books on ScrollMotion. While there are many eBook readers in the iTunes App store, ScrollMotion’s product is unique because stand-alone and newer in-copyright titles and best-selling novels will be available. Each ScrollMotion book is a separate application using Scroll Motion’s new Iceberg reader technology.

Still, it’s rather annoying reading a little screen while it’s beaming light into your eyes while you squint at it.

Total Training

There are several tutorial sites on the web, about web-design and stuff. Learning to use Photoshop or Dreamweaver. I tried a few of them but sincerely, it was going nowhere. Why? Because the best technique to learn how to use the above mentioned software is the video tutorial. I’ve come across the Total Training video tutorial this June. And let me say that my skills have increased greatly. Especially on Dreamweaver CS3. So if you want to learn how to use these two great software from Adobe, remember that Total Training is the best. You can buy it from their official site.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

We’re deeply affected and touched by this wonderful masterpiece. I don’t care what Roger Ebert and others say that it’s a Forrest Gump rip-off. It’s not. It might have some similarities, but the feel of the movie is way different. Inspired by the short story from F. Scott Fitzgerald, the movie follows the life of a boy/man who ages backwards. This is the only thing that the movie has in common with the short story. But I did not care. The screenplay was so beautifully written. And the acting was flawless. Cate Blanchett somehow managed to amaze me once again, after so many incredible performances. And Brad Pitt delivers his most powerful and grandios work. I want him to get the Oscar for Best Actor. It’s his time.

It’s nothing like other David Fincher movies. He manages to show us once again what a great film-maker he is. Beautiful directing. Some people are bitching about its length, 159 minutes; it’s all nonsense. It could have lasted 4 hours, I would not have cared. It is such an intriguing and sad and beautiful film about birth, life, happiness and sorrow… death.

It’s been some time since I’ve been waiting for it to be released. I knew that it would be a masterpiece.

Do yourself a huge favor and go see this movie! Or download it… it’s amazing!

10/10

X-Men Origins: Wolverine

The trailer has been released and it looks amazing. I hope it won’t be a letdown. The helicopter scene looks damn awesome. The movie will be released on May 1st, 2009.

“The Dark Knight” Fan Campaign Paying Off?

oscars

Quick update from the folks at DarkCampaign.com. Apparently their efforts in pestering (okay, maybe pestering is a harsh word) industry folks in order to get The Dark Knight seriously considered as a Best Picture contender is starting to pay off.

According to Rayne over at the site, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences sent him the following message:

“Due to the vast amounts of emails, and requests for consideration, You have succeeded in catching our attention. Academy Members will give respectable thought to this years movies. Films such as “The Dark Knight” will be given equal consideration along with other competing films. We applaud the hearts of those with so much dedication, and love for a film of this caliber. Thank you for your feedback, and good luck.”

Of course, it’s possible that the AMPAS heads are just saying that because they got sick of their mailbox being flooded by Joker cards, but let’s take any win we can get.

FTP Sucks

I’m sick and tired of FTP transfer. I try to upload some phpbb3 update files and it takes forever. Why? Because FTP uploads the files one by a time. With a second of refresh between them. If I have one 3mb file and I want to upload it, that’s ok! In a matter of seconds it’s done! But if I have 1000 files, no matter how fucking small, and I want to upload them, I’m fucked.

Is there a solution that I don’t know about yet? I’m using Total Commander 7.0
